Gianne de Genevraye
International painter Gianne de Genevraye paints public gardens around the world. She is a Contemporary Nature Painter, exhibiting widely with work seen in collections in France, Italy, Sweden, Mexico, Japan, UK and the United States. Born in California, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of California Irvine, studying under contemporary masters Judy Chicago, Tony Delap, Craig Kaufman and John Paul Jones. She was studio assistant to Jennifer Bartlett in France for three years. In 1990-91, she was an Invited Artist at the American Academy of Rome.
In 2011, Gianne painted and exhibited on site in the Château Bachivillers where Mary Cassatt lived and worked in France. In 2012, Gianne was a resident painter and exhibited on site in the garden
Jardin des Méditerranées at the Domaine du Rayol in the south of France. In December 2012, she painted a series of paintings at the historic vineyard Hospice du Clos Cristal, that were exhibited at the Saumur Hospital. In 2013, Gianne had a residency and exhibition at the Casa Romantica Cultural Center of San Clemente in California. In 2014-15, she did a two-part residency at the Hortense Miller Garden in Laguna Beach, California, along with lectures and art talks. In 2014, she was in residence at the Hanbury Botanic Gardens, the home of the Botanical chair of the University of Genoa, Italy. In 2015, Gianne completed a Hortense Miller Garden residency with a solo exhibition on site in Laguna Beach, California. She was invited to paint in residency at La Mortella gardens on the island of Ischia near Naples, Italy in 2015.
Gianne de Genevraye was the Artist in Residence 2014 and 2015 for the city of Menton in southern France, painting in four municipal gardens. She painted in 2015 in St. Ives, in Cornwall, England and 2016 in San José del Cabo in Baja, Mexico. In 2016,17 & 18, Gianne completed workshops for the Annenberg Foundation at Sunnylands Center & Gardens in Rancho Mirage and Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. Her first solo museum show was in Bormes les Mimosas, France in June and July, 2016. In the fall of 2016, she painted in the acclaimed Ninfa Gardens in central Italy followed by a short residence in San José del Cabo, Mexico.
In 2017, Gianne returned to Laguna Beach with a solo exhibition at the Susi Q Community Center in Laguna Beach and reprised a conference and workshop series. She returned to La Mortella Garden in Ischia, and in the spring painted the famous Tresco Abbey Garden on the Isles of Scilly in the United Kingdom. She completed residencies in Antibes, France and Okazaki, Japan in preparation for her upcoming exhibition in 2019 with the Newport Beach Sister Cities Association. Her solo Newport Beach Sister City Exposition will be held at the Newport Center Library January through March 2019.
Spring 2018, she was the invited artist at the Parc du Bagatelle in Paris for the Chopin Society. In preparation for a solo exhibition in Antibes, France, Gianne will paint in Desenzano, Italy, Kinsale Ireland and Olympia Greece in 2019. She is invited to exhibit in the prestigious Festival des Jardins sur la Côte d’Azur in 2019.
